Christmas dinner starts to take shape

While just under a month away, the Fort Frances Volunteer Bureau’s annual community Christmas dinner already is in the works, with the first organizational meeting being held here last Thursday.
Organizers already have received some food and cash donations, and are rounding up volunteers, but they still need to get more of both over the next few weeks.
The dinner—which will run from noon to 2 p.m. on Christmas Day at Knox United Church—is a group effort made possible with both helping hands and donations of food.
Turkeys, hams, and other foods—like coffee, tea, potatoes, and desserts—are needed. Money donations are used to purchase any food items not otherwise donated.
Meanwhile, volunteers are needed to set up for the dinner, cook the food, serve, deliver “Meals on Wheels,” and help clean up afterwards.
The event also seems to be getting increasingly popular, seeing a mix of people who might not have family to share the holiday with as well as those who simply want to socialize with fellow citizens on a very special occasion.
Last year’s community Christmas dinner, for instance, drew about 220 people—20 more than the year before.
Musical entertainment currently is being lined for this year’s dinner, but nothing has been confirmed yet.
Another organizational meeting likely will be held early in December.
