Chili cook-off set to go

Staff

There will be no shortage of chili to be sampled at the annual “Great Canadian Chili Cook-off” here Wednesday as a veritable pirate fleet of teams has been lined up.
This year’s theme is “Pirates of the Chili-Be-An,” and a dozen teams of culinary corsairs will be participating.
They included Main Street Market, Holmlund Financial, Rockcut Accounting & Bookkeeping, Gillons’ Insurance, NCDS, Kiwanis, and six teams comprised of Seven Generations Education Institute students.
The popular event once again is being hosted by the Fort Frances Chamber of Commerce.
Chamber manager Annely Armstrong-Thorstad is pleased with the lineup and is hopeful there will be enough chili to feed the lunchtime crowd.
She also urges teams to dress up pirate-style and name their chili accordingly.
Running from 11:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. at the local Legion, a single bowl costs $5 while a sampler platter costs $7 (includes a bun and beverage).
As in past years, there will be a “Best Chili Award” determined by a panel of judges, including Coun.
Andrew Hallikas, Andy C (93.1 The Border), and Duane Hicks (Fort Frances Times).
There also will be a “People’s Choice Award,” voted on by members of the public who opt to get the sampler platter.
As well, the ever-popular cake roulette will be back, where people can pay, spin, and win donated baked goods in support of the Robert Moore School breakfast program.
The public is welcome to donate cakes and other goodies for the cake roulette fundraiser,
Those who would like to donate can call Toey Bone at 274-4931, or drop off their donated treats at the Legion after 9 a.m. on Wednesday.
