Chess medals awarded

The first district chess tournament since 2009 was held at Crossroads School in Devlin back on May 3.
Some 58 students attended from Crossroads, S.C.A.P., and Robert Moore School.
Each player had five games throughout the tournament, and was ranked according to wins, losses, or draws.
The top three placers in the each of the four divisions received medals afterwards.
In the eight-and-under division, the gold medal went to Kali McCormick (four points), silver to Noah Avis, Krystal Wagner, and Chloe Allan (3.5), and bronze to Racin Witherspoon, Teagen Morriseau, Bud Jerry, Cadance Sinclair, and Sean Brubacher (2.5).
In the age nine-10 division, Liam Stafford was the gold-medal winner (five points).
Rex Tolton and Teddy Donaldson won silver medals (four points) while Seamus Barkley, Luc Gagne, TJ Barker, and Nick Poirier took bronze (3.5).
In the age 11-12 division, gold went to Cade Beck (four points), silver to Garrett Mose, Nolan MacDonald, and Evan Kabel (3.5), and bronze to Tyson Farmer, Gabe Gunderson, and Jude Edwards (three).
And in the age 13-14 division, Brayden Sabbe earned the gold, with Gooch Whitecrow winning silver and Erica Lemelin the bronze.
Crossroads School would like to thank all the participants, and especially the three high school helpers from S.C.A.P.
We would like to extend an invitation to all district schools to participate in the fall chess tournament (date still to be determined).
