‘Chem-free’ grad committee to meet

The “chem-free” grad committee once again is looking for parents to help organize the annual event so this year’s Fort High graduating class can celebrate their accomplishments in a safe and sober environment.
“We have been meeting with the students at school before Christmas, but this will be the first meeting with parents,” said teacher and co-organizer Joyce Martinson.
Parents of graduating students are invited to attend a meeting this coming Tuesday (Jan. 13) at 7 p.m. in Room 130 to help plan the event.
“We need people to organize the activities and get the sponsorship, the prizes, the food, those kinds of things,” Martinson said.
Parents who volunteer their help also will be working alongside the grads themselves.
“There is generally an excellent turnout,” she said, adding about 80 percent of grads have participated in the past.
Last year’s “chem-free” party was held at the ’52 Canadians Arena, where 123 grads spent the night singing karaoke, playing games of chance and name-that-tune, and trying out the OPP drunk driving simulator.
There also were numerous prizes up for grabs, including mini-refrigerators and TV sets.
