Changes on tap for Christmas parade

The Christmas parade here will be held in December this year–as well as on a different day of the week and at a different time of day.
Following the theme, “Christmas at the Movies,” the parade is set to go at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 2–a change from early Saturday evening as it’s been in recent years.
“We’re very excited,” said Katie Trigg, branch manager at TD Canada Trust here, who is co-organizing the parade this year along with Heather Gill, TD manager of customer experience. They’ve taken the reins from Scott Krienke-Turvey, who spearheaded the event for the last three years.
Trigg said the new day and time should work well.
“We wanted to do something that didn’t require lights because last year I know a lot of people had said they had trouble finding a way to light their vehicle,” she remarked.
“And so if they didn’t have lights, you couldn’t see it in the evening.
“We thought, ‘Why don’t we try a daytime parade this year?'”
The theme this year should make for some fun floats, added Trigg.
“People might want to do ‘The Grinch’ or ‘The Nightmare Before Christmas’ or ‘Christmas Vacation’–anything,” she enthused, noting she and Gill are hoping as many groups, businesses, and individuals as possible get inspired to decorate and enter floats.
Trigg said they’ll also need volunteers for various tasks on parade day.
Those with questions, or interested in registering a float or volunteering, can e-mail Trigg and Gill at
Organizers also will be printing posters, as well as getting a Facebook page and website up this week, to promote the parade.
