A recent survey by the Fort Frances Chamber of Commerce shows an “overwhelming number” of its membership doesn’t want parking meters in downtown Fort Frances.
Chamber reps met with the town’s bylaw enforcement officer on Tuesday regarding concerns over parking meters being installed on Scott Street.
They presented the results of the survey during that meeting.
A total of 77.5 percent of the 80 respondents were against parking meters while 22.5 percent were in favour.
“The meeting was extremely positive and alternative ideas were talked about,” the Chamber noted in its newsletter, which was released earlier today.
“Not only did we address the issue of today, but focused on what should be done to address a future population increase,” it said.
“As well as making it easier for tourists to access the shops and services downtown.”
In related news, the Shops on Scott (BIA) surveyed its member businesses on the parking meter issue earlier this spring.
Of 50 individuals polled, 49 were against parking meters while one was in favour of them.
Downtown businesses also signed a petition against the implementation of parking meters.
