The Fort Frances Chamber of Commerce passed a bylaw at its general membership meeting here Tuesday to broaden the scope of appointed representatives to its board.
Chamber manager Dawn Booth said that up until now, the board has had appointees from the Town of Fort Frances, AbitibiBowater, Rainy River Future Development Corp., Business Improvement Association, and Couchiching FN.
But the bylaw has been amended to now include seats for one representative from the town’s Economic Development Advisory Committee, one from the outlying First Nations (excluding Couchiching), and one from the Sunset Country Métis.
Booth said the change will allow for the Chamber to “open up it more and work with more partners.”
It will be up to the respective groups to choose their appointees.
Tuesday’s meeting also included guest speakers Andy Peterson, Nancy Daley, and Faye Flatt, who spoke on the Northern Networks Trade Conference in Duluth (May 12-13), the Celebrating Diversity Committee, and the town’s official plan steering committee, respectively.
Booth said the Chamber agreed to have someone sit on that latter committee.
The agenda was rounded out with a message from Chamber president Cathy Emes, approval of minutes, the treasurer’s report, and a president’s plaque presentation to past president Christine Denby, who retired last year.
