Press Release
The Fort Frances Chamber of Commerce and Shaw Canada is pleased to announce they will be teaming up to gather items for our local food bank.
Shaw has just launched a new movement called “Together is Amazing,” in which the company is attempting to utilize its network of phone lines, television, Internet, and satellite to bring people together to do amazing things.
Their first initiative is called “Fill the Food Banks,” in which every pound of food donated by the community is matched by both Shaw and Campbell’s.
A simple donation becomes tripled in the amount of help it provides.
Meanwhile, the Fort Frances Chamber of Commerce, along with Shaw as a major sponsor, is pleased to be hosting once again the always popular Great Canadian Chili Cook-Off.
The Chamber is encouraging participating teams to represent different countries by finding a chili recipe or putting in a flare about that country in the chili.
Travel around the world one spoonful at a time!
This fun-filled event, slated for next Wednesday (Oct. 20) from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m., always has generated laughter, community spirit, and good-natured competition.
Every year, the Chamber holds a food drive in conjunction with the Great Canadian Chilli Cook-Off by asking people to bring non-perishable food items when they attend.
This year, the Chamber is asking individuals and businesses to start collecting food items and bring them to the chili cook-off.
They also can be dropped off at The Place, Robert Moore School, Family & Children’s Service, Shaw’s office, the Fort Frances Public Library and Technology Centre, and the Chamber office.
“Fill the Food Banks” will be gathering food until Nov. 15 so if you cannot make to the chili cook-off, you still will be able to donate items to one of the locations listed above.
The “Cake Roulette” also is being offered again this year.
The Chamber is asking bakers to donate any and all deserts (cakes, cookies, pies, etc.) to the Chamber office to be won on the roulette wheel during the chili cook-off.
Come out and try your luck to win some awesome baking!
Meanwhile, if you have a favourite desert recipe and would like to have it published, the Chamber is looking at making a recipe book for Christmas.
If we have enough interest, we’ll put all the recipes together and make a great cookbook.
Contact the Chamber office for more details.
