Chamber of Commerce cooking up Shop Local poker derby

The Fort Frances Chamber of Commerce is looking to tag local businesses into a fun and festive way to help the public shop local during this holiday season.

According to the Chamber, they are organizing a Holiday Shopping Poker Derby with participating member businesses that will give shoppers in Fort Frances an opportunity to win prizes while they complete their holiday purchases.

When shoppers in Fort Frances spend $25 or more at participating businesses around town, they will receive a poker card from a deck that has been provided by the Chamber. Only one card can be collected per transaction per person. Once the derby ends, shoppers will use the cards they collected to create the strongest poker hand they can, and send in a photo of their hand to the Chamber.

The best poker hand submitted will win a prize pack that is being put together by the Fort Frances Chamber of Commerce. If there is a tie for best hand, then the name of each person with that hand will be put into a draw to determine the winner.

According to a release by the Chamber of Commerce, the whole event is in order to celebrate shopping locally, which directly supports local businesses, for the holiday season.

“We want to encourage Fort Frances to do their annual holiday shopping locally, and to spend money at the businesses of our Chamber Members!” the chamber wrote.

“This event not only gives people an incentive to shop within our Chamber, but it is also another chance for us to promote our members across our social media and marketing platforms.”

The poker derby is expected to run from December 1 until December 18 at participating businesses.
