CFOB applying for FM licence

Pending a decision from the Canadian Radio-Television and Telecommunications Commission, local radio station CFOB could be airing on the FM band by the end of the summer.
CFOB owners, Fawcett Broadcasting Ltd., has applied to the CRTC for authority to convert the radio station from AM to FM, which would provide higher-quality broadcasts.
“Being on the FM band will provide better technical quality both day and night,” said station manager Hugh Syrja. “The new stereo service will enhance CFOB’s coverage and eliminate the problem of electrical interference which is inherent to the AM band.
“This is wonderful news for the Borderland area. All of our listeners will be provided with a better signal,” he added. “We are hopeful of receiving a favourable decision from the CRTC sometime this summer.”
If approved, CFOB will be located at 93.1 on the FM band.
