The “Forest of Reading” is Canada’s largest recreational reading program!
This initiative of the Ontario Library Association offers eight reading programs to encourage a love of reading in people of all ages.
The “Forest” also helps celebrate Canadian books, publishers, authors, and illustrators.
More than 250,000 readers participate annually from their school and/or public library.
All Ontarians/Canadians are invited to participate via their local public library, school library, or individually.
The “Blue Spruce” Award program brings recently-published Canadian children’s picture books to children aged four-seven in kindergarten through to Grade 2.
For many youngsters, this is their first introduction to the world of books.
This program promotes reading for enjoyment and begins to develop the readers’ skill in evaluating a picture book based on story, text, and pictures.
Readers also are provided opportunities to discuss these picture books in an authentic manner.
The Fort Frances Public Library is hosting a “Blue Spruce Celebrity Storytime” this Saturday (April 22) at 11 a.m.
Enjoy Fort Frances local celebrities as they read aloud to children and parents.
The celebrities who will be participating in this event are Ruth Caldwell (Citizen of the Year), Cam Gushulak (Muskie boys’ hockey), Cinderella Kielczewski, Lillie MacKinnon (Muskie girls’ hockey), and Lauren Hyatt (Drama Queen).
The Friends of the Library will be providing snacks, and everyone is encouraged to stay and vote for their favourite.
