Cause for alarm

By Tyler Moffitt
Fire Chief
Fort Frances Fire Rescue Service

Along with the Fire Marshal of Ontario and other Fire Chiefs/Firefighters… I am pleading with all residents of the province to do more to prevent fires in their homes.

We have lost 21 people in fires so far this year in Ontario!

These deaths are preventable. We’ve lost mothers, fathers, and grandparents. As a father and grandfather … it breaks my heart to say … we also lost children throughout different parts of Ontario … so many years of potential life lost!

FIRE SAFETY IS NOT DIFFICULT FOLKS!

Meanwhile, The Fort Frances Fire Rescue Service responded to 24 incidents in the Town of Fort Frances this past January.

One incident involved combustibles too close to the stove top in a residence. As well, during a false alarm call to a residence … it was noted by one of our team members that combustibles were too close to a pellet stove.

Smoke Alarms Save Lives … but they only do so if they are working. Please test your smoke alarms!

As well, practice your home escape plan, and remember to never leave cooking pots/pans or space heaters unattended.

Remember … all of us need to take responsibility … to be proactive and safeguard our home and loved ones.

Let’s all do our part to stay FIRE SAFE!

FIRE SAFETY … IT STARTS WITH YOU!
