Catholic board to vote on advance poll

The Northwest Catholic District School Board will vote on a motion tonight to establish an advance poll for unincorporated areas in the upcoming municipal election.
Trustees will vote to run an advance poll “to cover the unorganized areas directly north and east of the Town of Fort Frances, including Watten, Halkirk, and Fairnington townships, and the unorganized areas north of the Township of Alberton, including Miscampbell and Griesinger.”
This will be to allow people in those areas an opportunity to vote in advance for the board’s three Fort Frances seats.
Running for the those three seats are incumbents Anne Marie Fitzgerald, Harold Huntley, and Gerry Rousseau, along with challenger Paul Cousineau.
If the motion passes as expected, the advance poll will be held at the board’s office, located at 555 Flinders Ave. (next to St. Francis School), on Monday, Nov. 6 from noon-6 p.m.
The local Catholic board also will see an election for the seat in Morley, where incumbent Mark Chojko-Bolec is running against Kim Desserre and Don Marquis.
John Borst and Robert vanOort have been acclaimed for the two Dryden seats while Cathy Bowen has been acclaimed for the seat in Sioux Lookout.
Also at tonight’s regular monthly meeting, the Catholic board will:
•vote on a motion to approve a revised school year calendar in keeping with its co-terminous boards;
•receive the director of education’s annual report for 2006; and
•review the variance report for the year ended Aug. 31, 2006.
The meeting starts at 7 p.m. in the board office.
