Catholic board to meet

The Northwest Catholic District School Board will hold its regular monthly meeting tonight, via videoconference, starting at 6:30 p.m. in the board office adjacent to St. Francis School.
Following the release of the provincial budget last month, Superintendent of Business Chris Howarth will give an update on education funding and its effect on the local board’s own budget calculations.
The board also will be receiving a condensed version of results from an operational review it recently underwent from the ministry.
The review looked at four areas of the school board, including governance and administration, human resource management and school staffing/allocation, financial management, and school operations and facilities management.
A complete document is expected to be finished in the near future.
Also on the agenda tonight is a “recognition of excellence” that will be presented to St. Michael’s School teacher Debbie Jean, and student Carson Noga.
Jean, a reading resource teacher, has been teaming up with classroom teachers as part of the new Professional Learning Community they’ve begun there recently.
With a focus on the Gospel value of “Hope,” Jean has been working with teachers to develop student responses to texts—such as most recently reading to classes “The List” by Hazel Hutchins.
Students have to orally respond to the text by discussing, re-telling, and examining the type of language the author uses to get their message across.
