The Northwest Catholic District School Board is pleased to announce the Ministry of Education has approved an additional trustee for the next election, which will increase the current complement to eight trustees from seven.
The Northwest Catholic District School Board and the Atikokan Roman Catholic Separate School Board amalgamated as of Sept. 1, 2009.
As a result, the area of jurisdiction of the NCDSB was increased by 373 sq. km, according to the Municipality of Atikokan.
A formal request to the minister of education was sent by the board in January to increase the number of members of the board to accommodate this increase in area.
“The Northwest Catholic District School Board will discuss the trustee distribution at the March 27 board meeting,” said Director of Education Mary-Catherine Kelly.
“The Northwest Catholic District School Board will be able to ensure that all its ratepayers are adequately represented now that the board will have eight trustees,” noted board chair Anne-Marie Fitzgerald.
