There will be a new face on the Northwest Catholic District School Board as it seeks a replacement trustee in Dryden.
The board met Saturday at Sacred Heart School in Sioux Lookout for its regular monthly meeting and discussed how to replace trustee Cynthia Cossais.
“Cynthia Cossais took a position with the Keewatin-Patricia School Board and once you accept a position with any school board, you are no longer eligible to serve as a trustee,” Chris Howarth, the board’s superintendent of business, said Monday.
“This doesn’t happen very often. I think it has happened twice in the 13 years I have been here,” he added.
At Saturday’s meeting, the board decided to place an ad in the local newspaper seeking applicants interested in filling the remainder of Cossais’ term, which ends in December, 2003.
Candidates will go through an interview process before the board chooses a replacement.
“There were several of options from going to the runner-up in the last election to the board appointing someone, and they felt that placing an ad would be the most impartial way of doing it,” Howarth said.
“The board stated their regrets for her having to step down,” he added.
Cossais won’t be ending her involvement with the school board completely. At Saturday’s meeting, she was appointed to sit on its Special Education Advisory Committee.
