‘Catch the Ace’ pot keeps on growing

The progressive pot of the Rainy River District Regional Abattoir’s weekly “Catch the Ace” draw is expected to hit nearly $4,800 as it reaches its 10th week.
This week’s draw will take place on Saturday (July 22) at 4:30 p.m. at the Rainy River Legion, in conjunction with “Railroad Daze” festivities.
Each week a draw is made for 20 percent of that week’s ticket sales.
The winner also has the chance to win the progressive pot, which grows each week as 30 percent of the ticket sales is added.
That is done by correctly guessing which envelope, each with a playing card in it, contains the ace of spades.
After an envelope is picked, if the card is not the winning one, it is destroyed.
As such, the chances of finding the ace of spades grows with each passing week.
The other 50 percent of each ticket sale goes to local youth-centered education, awareness, and 4-H programs.
Tickets cost $2 each, which can be purchased at Shoppers Home Health Care, the Fort Frances Times, Badiuk Equipment, Dev-Lynne’s, the Emo Inn, Rainy River Meats, Tompkins Home Hardware, Village Variety, Stratton Service, JD Junction, and Suzie’s Hairstyling.
Kathy Kaemingh was the latest weekly winner, taking home $287 (20 percent of the week’s ticket sales) during last Friday’s draw held at the Back Alley Bar in Emo.
Kaemingh had picked envelope #17, which contained the three of hearts.
That meant she missed out on the progressive pot-a total of $4,365 at the time-and the draw continues!
