Career coaching enters virtual reality

Ever wonder what it would be like to be a welder? Or what it looks like from inside a crane? The Northern Community Development Service (NCDS) has found the answers in virtual reality.

NCDS has partnered with Contact North to bring an immersive career experience. Each video shows a day in the life of a different career, through a virtual reality, 360 degree video.

Representatives from Contact North will be on hand all day Wednesday at the NCDS office, at 304 Scott Street in Fort Frances. They have virtual headsets, and participants can view as few or as many as they wish, free of charge.

“It’s really amazing technology,” said NCDS Resource and Information leader Jesse Carmody. “Some of the videos I’ve seen, it’s like the machine controls are right in front of you.”

Anyone is free to stop by at any time on Wednesday and check out the virtual reality experience. According to Carmody, if it’s a popular event, it may be brought back again in the future.
