This year’s Christmas cantata, entitled “The First Noel,” is all set to go this Sunday (Dec. 7).
The cantata, once again being directed by Diane Maxey, will be held at 3 p.m. at the New Beginnings Fellowship here.
Admission is free but a free-will offering will be taken at the door.
Maxey said her group of 50-plus choraliers will perform a set of favourite songs from previous years, as well as “The First Noel,” which is a set of new ones.
“It’s coming along really, really well,” enthused Maxey, who led the choraliers in a preview performance of the cantata for Rainycrest residents this past Sunday.
Mitchell Riordon again will narrate the story of the nativity.
The cantata has been held at St. Mary’s Church for many years but Maxey said the new venue should work out well.
If the audience is too large for the church portion of the building where the choraliers will be singing, more chairs will put out in the alcove for the overflow of people.
A TV set with a live video feed also will be set up so those sitting outside the church area still can watch the performance.
It will be followed by a reception with refreshments.
Maxey said Lyndon Hughes will be making a high-quality audio and video recording of the cantata.
Those who want a CD, DVD, or both will be able to order them from him.
The cost will be $20 for a CD or DVD, or $25 for both.
“I think that’s awesome,” Maxey said of Hughes’ participation.

An encore performance of the cantata is slated for Sunday, Dec. 14 at 3 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in International Falls.
