With cooler weather upon us here in Borderland, Diane Maxey already is thinking about the holiday season–and that means the Christmas cantata.
Those interested in singing in this year’s cantata are encouraged to come out to a listening session set for this coming Monday (Oct. 15) at 7 p.m. at the New Beginnings Fellowship.
“This one’s a down home family Christmas celebration,” Maxey said of the cantata, entitled “Good News from Home.”
“It’s different,” she remarked. “It combines some original songs with beloved Christmas carols everybody knows.
“It’s got a country kind of twang twist on it, which I kind of like,” added Maxey. “Something different.
“It’s going to be fun.”
Maxey said she expects many of the Fort Frances Choraliers to return for the Christmas cantata but stressed she always welcomes new voices.
Those who want to listen before they commit always can come out for Monday’s session and decide then.
Those who know they’ll they be singing again, and want their music sooner than later, are urged to call Maxey at 274-7309 before Oct. 15.
“It’s always nice to know my numbers before I make up all of these discs,” Maxey explained, referring to the CDs with cantata songs on them provided to participants so they can learn the songs between weekly practices.
There is a fee of $20 for the music.
Singers will have about six weeks to practise for the first cantata performance–a sneak preview for Rainycrest residents tentatively set for Sunday, Dec. 2.
The cantata for the greater public tentatively is scheduled for Sunday, Dec. 9 at 3 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in International Falls, with a second performance on Sunday, Dec. 16 at 3 p.m. at the Townshend Theatre.
