Candidates set for Couchiching election

There are seven people running for chief and 24 candidates seeking a seat on council for next month’s band election at Couchching.
Yesterday was the final day for people to withdraw their names from the nomination list.
Incumbent chief Chuck McPherson is running again in the Feb. 14 election. He’s being challenged by Christopher Bruyere, Harry Morrisseau, Jr., Aldin Robert Fredrick Foy, Ricky Baker, former chief Rudy Morrisseau, and Wallace Bruyere.
David Bruyere and Jerry Michael Woods Jr. withdrew their nominations for chief.
Seeking re-election to band council are incumbents Donald Bruyere, Bob Mainville, Lucille Morrisseau, Richard Bird, and Danny Mainville.
Others running for council include Bernard James Bruyere, Bruce Blake Bruyere, David Bruyere, Dennis Bruyere, Jeff Daniel Bruyere, Randy Bruyere, Ernie Jones, Carolyn Jourdain, Laurie Jourdain, Shane Jourdain, Shawn Jourdain, Donalda Mainville, Donna Mainville, Candace Morrisseau, Rudy Morrisseau, Brian Perrault, Allan Yerxa, Brian Yerxa, and Ed Yerxa.
Debbie Fairbanks, Clinton Perreault, Susan Smith, and Donna Yerxa were those who withdrew from the council race by yesterday’s deadline.
Couchiching First Nation is located just east of Fort Frances.
