Canadian Tire staff is holding a fundraiser bake sale and penny auction this Saturday (April 5) to help the family of a local youth struggling with spina bifida.
From 11 a.m.-3 p.m., the public is invited to drop by the store and buy something to help out William Moody Jr., who had been in hospital in Montreal for medical treatment but is expected to return home this week.
He was there for well over a month.
Moody’s mother, Kelly Rae Calder, works in the seasonal department at Canadian Tire and her co-workers are putting on the event to help her out.
Calder has been off the job to be by her son’s side for his entire stay in hospital.
In related news, Canada Safeway staff have helped raise $11,000 towards an automated lift for Moody over the past three months during their annual “We Care” campaign.
Their goal is to raise $15,000 to get the lift.
While there’s currently no fundraising promotions going on at Safeway, the public should keep an eye open for future events, possibly a raffle or barbecue, to raise the remaining $4,000.
Moody needs a wheelchair to get around. A portable lift would better allow him to go up and down stairs to leave or enter his house.
