Thanks to the sunny and hot conditions here on Canada Day, sports activities held at Pither’s Point went off smoothly.
A 4-on-4 beach volleyball tournament was maxed out with 10 teams, with first place going to the Dirty Four Play team of Dan Fotheringham, Chris Noyle, Kim Fossum, and Dana Tonneguzi.
“We also had four teams that were on our waiting list,” noted event organizer Amy Wilson-Hands.
“For next year, we’re going to need more courts, which will allow us to have more teams and to have an even bigger tournament,” she added.
The Sassy Senoritas (Sian Donald, Chelsea Hill, Justin Bujold, Justin Anderson, & Steve Romaniuk) finished in second spot while Victorious Secret (Amy Wilson-Hands, Sarah Gould, Allison Hyatt, Jamie Jensen, and Dave May) placed third.
Meanwhile, Fort Frances led the way in a mixed horseshoe tournament, with Stewart Allen scoring the $75 first prize.
Second went to Leonard Noonan, with Steve Luoman finishing in third.
A total of nine competitors took part in the event, including two women.
