With Canada Day only four months away, celebrations in Fort Frances once again are in jeopardy due to a lack of organizers.
The Canada Day Celebrations Committee is in desperate need of a group or individuals to step forward to organize the event.
Paul Bock really was the backbone of the committee for many, many years (decades actually) and with him no longer living in the community, the formerly known “Fun in the Sun” committee has no leader, no organizer, and no one to pull it all together.
Several other committee members also have stepped down this year, leaving only one or two members who joined just last year.
The committee does have people who are willing to organize aspects of the day, but need a group like the Fort Frances Chamber of Commerce, service club, or even just a group of individuals to take the lead.
Sandra Allan has stepped up to plan and organize entertainment for the day.
Jody Maguire has offered to organize a fundraising social for the event while Linda Richardson again will put together various kids’ activities and games for July 1.
There also is a group of volunteers, including Dave Coats and Hal Mickelson, who again will take care of the fireworks, but the committee still must raise funds to purchase them.
This is a good start to a committee, but there really needs to be a chairperson to co-ordinate everything.
Additionally, finding dollars to make it all happen is another key factor—and something that needs to happen now.
A meeting has been set for Tuesday, March 1 at 6 p.m. in the ’52 Canadians Arena meeting room.
Anyone interested in helping out is highly encouraged to attend.
