Press Release
Newly elected Kenora-Rainy River MPP Sarah Campbell has wasted no time getting down to business.
After spending the early part of the week getting her constituency offices in Dryden, Fort Frances, and Kenora up and running, Campbell attended her first caucus meeting yesterday in Toronto.
“It was a great meeting,” she enthused. “I think we accomplished a lot and set a clear direction for the upcoming legislative session.
“Voters sent us to Queen’s Park with a clear mandate to work for positive change that will make life more affordable, and that’s the agenda we plan to put forward in the coming months,” she pledged.
Campbell said the NDP caucus remains focused on its promises to remove the HST off home heating and hydro, and take other key steps to reduce the cost of living across the province but particularly in the north.
“I was sent to Queen’s Park with a very clear mandate from the voters of Kenora-Rainy River,” Campbell noted.
“The cost of living is far too high, especially in the north, and voters want a real plan of action for bringing jobs back to our communities and we want to see access to essential services like health care improved.”
With a minority government Campbell said all parties will have to work together to make parliament work.
“The mandate all of us were
given is to come back to Queen’s Park and work together to make government work for all of the people of this province,” she reasoned.
“The NDP is committed to doing that and we’re committed to improving people’s lives by bringing positive change to Queen’s Park.”
With her first caucus meeting now under her belt, Campbell’s next big step will be her swearing-in ceremony, which is scheduled for Oct. 27 in Toronto.
A date for the Legislative Assembly to commence sitting has not yet been set.
Meanwhile, Campbell’s constituency offices are now up and running.
Her Fort Frances office, which is open Monday to Friday from 1-5 p.m., currently is located at 140 Fourth St. W. (the old CN station).
The phone number is 274-7619.
