The ever-popular desk calendars printed by the Fort Frances Times each year are now available at the front desk at the Times’ office.
And again this year, the public is being asked for donations in return for calendars, with proceeds going to the Fort Frances “Community Chest.”
Times’ office manager Linda Plumridge noted about $600 in donations was given to the “Community Chest” last year.
As such, the Times decided to support the good cause—the purpose of which is to provide financial aid to local families who may need help to cover medical costs—for a second year.
“We recognize how many people use ‘Community Chest’ and how many people it benefits,” said Plumridge.
“We thought this was an ideal opportunity for people to give back.
“We’re not selling them [the calendars]—we’re just asking for a donation to the ‘Community Chest.’
“Before we did it, we talked to the people sponsoring the calendar and they all thought it was a good thing, as well,” Plumridge added.
“Look around. Every one of us probably knows someone whose benefited from this wonderful charity.
“I was really thrilled with how much we were able to pass on to the ‘Community Chest’ last year,” enthused Plumridge.
“Hopefully, we’ll be able to do the same this year.”
The Times has been printing the desk calendars for more than a decade. About 1,300 are printed each year and all of them usually are snatched up by early January—if not sooner.
“We have people who come looking for them long after they’re gone,” noted Plumridge, adding calendar sponsors receive a number of copies to use and give away as they choose.
