Businesses joining ‘Kraft’ craze

Local businesses are jumping on board to show off their spirit for the “Kraft Celebration Tour” by decorating storefront windows.
The Fort Frances Chamber of Commerce put out the call for the window-decorating contest, which began yesterday and will run throughout the week.
“Decorate your storefront with everything Kraft and TSN and it could be featured on national television,” the Chamber’s website notes.
The windows will be judged Friday, with TSN taping footage of the displays Saturday and Sunday.
The winner will receive a “Kraft Celebration Pack” filled with Kraft products courtesy of Canada Safeway.
While people might see giant Kraft Dinner boxes or the letters T-S-N in several local windows, two local insurance brokers are taking the window decorating a step further.
“We want to fill our windows with food,” said Christine Denby, account administrator at Gillons’, adding they’re asking people to drop off non-perishable food items for them to use.
They got the idea to use Kraft products, but then agreed they don’t want to limit it to Kraft products.
When the contest is complete, the food all will be donated to the local Salvation Army food bank.
“As a part of the ‘Kraft Celebration Tour,’ we want to give back to the community,” Denby stressed.
Those who drop off food also will have their names entered in a draw for one of five picnic baskets full of items.
Causeway General Insurance Brokers, meanwhile, also is collecting food for the local food bank.
“Anybody that brings in a Kraft food item is entered to win a $25 Chamber gift certificate and a Causeway prize pack,” explained Brenda Kellar, an administrative assistant.
The gift certificate can be used at any Chamber location around town while the Causeway prize is made up of clothing.
“We would like to stick with the Kraft theme,” said Kellar.
“All the food that we are collecting is going to go in that window,” she added.
Causeway already has filled up one of its display windows at 229 Scott St. while the empty window will be where they display donations that come in.
“We have a list on the window of different products,” Kellar said.
“Kraft Dinner is a big one,” she noted. “Kraft salad dressings, peanut butter, Ritz crackers, Miracle Whip, Cheese Whiz—anything that your average family would use.
Kellar also said she will be attending the celebration down at the Sorting Gap Marina on Sunday (Aug. 25).
“I think it’s good for the community,” she reasoned.
