Business Women’s Network planning banquet

Janis Lesko, honorary chairperson of the Rainy River District Women’s Business Network, is excited about their annual charity ball coming up May 5 at the Fort Frances Curling Club.
“This year we decided to try something a little bit different,” said Lesko, who owns Cripes It’s a Castle on Scott Street. “The past two years, we had a formal event and I think it may have kept people away.
“This year, we are going with something a little less formal. It is going to be a casual evening of entertainment, music, and great giveaways.”
Dubbed “A Taste of Italy,” guests will get the chance to sample some authentic Italian cuisine–and take in the festive Italian decor that will fill the curling club.
“The decorations are going to be great,” Lesko enthused. “When people see how we have transformed the curling rink, they are going to be amazed.
“We are also going to have some great Italian food and music,” she added. “Rod Armit is going to be playing the music for us so people can expect to hear songs from Dean Martin, Tony Bennett, and Frank Sinatra.”
Lesko also noted a silent auction will be held in conjunction with the dinner.
“There are going to be some great prizes but one of the highlights is certainly going to be the two round-trip tickets to anywhere in the continental United States, excluding Hawaii and Alaska, that was donated by International Travel,” she remarked.
Proceeds from this year’s ball once again will go towards the Easter Seal Society.
The local Women’s Business Network is comprised of 30 women from around the district who are dedicated to the growth and development of themselves, other women, their businesses, and the communities.
“Our organization is open to women from around the district who want to contribute to the betterment of the community,” Lesko noted. “When we get together, we brainstorm about how to add to the overall growth of the community.
“All the women that are involved in our group are very energetic and committed to what we are doing.”
In the meantime, Lesko is hoping people interested in a wonderful evening of great food and entertainment will come out May 5 to support a deserving cause.
“This is really a fantastic thing for couples to attend together,” she said. “It is going to be a very nice night out and it supports a great cause.
“After this weather, I am sure people will be ready for a great evening out.”
