Business awards postponed until fall

Been thinking about who to nominate for a business award this year?
Don’t sweat it–you have more time to think it over.
The Fort Frances Chamber of Commerce’s 22nd-annual Rainy River District Business Awards has been moved from next month–when it traditionally is held–to September.
The decision to switch to a fall event was made yesterday by the Chamber’s projects and events committee, Chamber executive director Jennifer Soderholm said this morning.
“They’re looking at revamping the whole event, right down to the voting process–how people can nominate, everything,” she noted.
“So it’s something that’s going to take a little time to get set up properly,” she added.
“We don’t want to rush it.”
Soderholm stressed the committee really wants to “change it up” so it will be “completely different to what it was.”
This could include anything from different award categories to voting.
One likely change is requiring nominators to provide more information about nominees.
This will help with voting–whether done by the public or a selection committee–as sometimes nominees and their achievements are not equally well-known to those deciding who wins.
“With wanting to make a completely new event, we want to make sure all of our ducks are in a row,” Soderholm reiterated.
“We’re going to take our time and work it to make sure what we do is fair for those nominated for the awards,” she pledged.
