Business award nominations to be sought

With its annual awards banquet coming up at the end of March, the Fort Frances Chamber of Commerce once again will be looking to get people thinking about exemplary businesses and individuals.
“I’m hoping we’ll be able to make the nominations forms available as soon as possible,” Chamber co-ordinator Dawn Booth said Thursday, noting it very likely would be next week.
“All the award sponsors were supposed to have been confirmed by now,” she added. “But we’re still waiting on a few.”
While the seventh-annual gala isn’t slated until March 23, Booth said the sooner the nominations are available, the better.
“I think in the last few years, we’ve had an average of 50 nominations in total,” she noted. “Of course, how many we get matters on how soon we can get the nominations forms out.
“We would have had them out earlier if we could confirm those sponsors,” Booth added.
Categories with confirmed sponsors include Entrepreneur of the Year, Business of the Year (1-15 employees and 16+ employees), Safety (individual and business), and one of the two categories in each of the Employee of the Year and Customer Service awards.
Booth noted nominees can be from anywhere in the district, not just Fort Frances, and individuals and businesses can nominate themselves.
“And they don’t even have to be Chamber members,” she added.
The banquet will be held at the Red Dog Inn. Cocktail hour is at 6 p.m., with dinner at 7. Ticket prices have yet to be confirmed.
“It’s an excellent evening. It’s a good chance for people to recognize the work done by businesses in the community,” said Booth.
“It’s gives businesses a chance to pat themselves on the back for an evening. And we encourage that.”
