Bus changes now in effect

Yesterday was the first day of a new bus schedule in Fort Frances after Greyhound Canada announced in July it would be cutting service.
The cuts amount to a 40 percent reduction in service. The previous seven weekly arrivals and departures between Fort Frances and Thunder Bay have been reduced to five, while the 10 weekly arrivals and departures between Fort Frances and Winnipeg are also reduced to five.
Because the routes originate in Manitoba, Greyhound had to apply to the Manitoba Transport Board for permission to make the changes.
Greyhound applied for the reductions, including various route changes across the province, in late 2004. The board released its decision in late July.
While most changes here took effect yesterday, the through route from Winnipeg to Thunder Bay via Fort Frances will continue until Sept. 15.
