Bridges dedicated to fallen OPP officers

Press Release

Three members of the OPP were honoured at bridge dedication ceremonies last Thursday in Kenora and Friday in Ear Falls.
Each of the three officers lost their lives in the line of duty while serving the province.
The Kenora bridge dedication ceremony was held at the Lake of the Woods Discovery Centre in Kenora.
This ceremony was in honour of Sgt. Tom J. Cooper, who was shot and killed on July 25, 1991 when responding to a firearms complaint call.
Also being honoured was Provincial Cst. Peter R. Sebborn, who was killed on July 1, 1957 when proceeding to the scene of a motor vehicle collision with his partner.
The cruiser they were in was hit head-on by a car travelling on the wrong side of the road.
The east and west branches of the Winnipeg River bridge on Highway 17 have been dedicated to these two officers.
Meanwhile, the Ear Falls ceremony was held at the Ear Falls Public School in honour of Provincial Cst. Calvin R. Fulford, who lost his life on Dec. 25, 1958 after responding to a shooting.
The gunman, who had shot and killed four people, then shot and killed Cst. Fulford upon his arrival at the scene.
The English River bridge on Highway #105 in Ear Falls has been dedicated to this officer.
In attendance at the two ceremonies were members of the Kenora and Red Lake/Ear Falls OPP detachments, as well as officers from across the North West Region, along with OPP Commissioner Chris D. Lewis and family members of the deceased officers.
