Bridge plan review set

Staff

The Transportation Environmental Study Report for the replacement of the international bridge at Rainy River/Baudette will be available for public review from Feb. 21-March 23.
The report can be viewed at the Rainy River Public Library or the Town of Rainy River clerk’s office, as well as at the Ministry of the Environment and Climate Change’s office in Thunder Bay.
It also is available for viewing on the project website at www.dot.state.mn.us/d2/projects/baudette-bridge
Meanwhile, an open house and public hearing is scheduled for this Tuesday (Feb. 21) from 5-7 p.m. at the City of Baudette council chambers.
The Ontario Ministry of Transportation, in co-operation with the Minnesota Department of Transportation, has retained Stantec Consulting Ltd. to undertake the preliminary design and Class Environmental Assessment for the bridge replacement.
The recommended plan set for public review includes a new replacement bridge located directly south (i.e., upstream) of the existing one.
The new bridge will tie into the existing U.S. and Canadian port of entry facilities.
Opportunities for public input were provided throughout the study and included three public meetings.
The Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency will determine whether or not a federal environmental assessment is necessary.
Part of this process includes the 30-day public review and comment period.
