The Minnesota Dakota and Western Railway (MD&W) and the International Bridge and Terminal Co. (IB&T) announced Friday a 20 percent price increase for commuter cards enabling passage on the international bridge here effective Jan. 1.
The cards now cost $18, which are valid for 12 round trips.
They previously sold for $15 for 12 round trips.
“This rate increase is driven by continually increasing maintenance, inspection, and insurance costs,” said Darwin Joslyn, general manager of MD&W, which operates the bridge.
Commuter cards already purchased will continue to be honoured until the crossings are used up or the expiration date on the card is reached.
The toll for motorists paying at the bridge did not increase.
Bridge commuter cards are available at Safeway here, as well as at the Super One and SuperValu grocery stores and the Holiday gas station in International Falls.
