Boy almost drowns at pool

A five-year-old boy was hospitalized after nearly drowning Saturday evening at the Memorial Sports Centre pool.
On-duty staff responded to the incident around 7 p.m., reviving the child and administering the necessary first-aid.
The boy then was taken by ambulance to hospital for further monitoring.
His condition has not been released.
Aquatic director Leana Moffitt said the incident was not the result of horseplay.
“He fell off the mat. And I guess he wasn’t too strong a swimmer,” she noted Monday morning, referring to floating mats that are used during public swim time.
Moffitt noted the on-duty staff “did a good job” responding to the incident.
She added that after consulting with the child’s parents, it was decided his name would not be released to the media.
