Former MP Ken Boshcoff was acclaimed yesterday as the Liberal candidate for Thunder Bay-Rainy River in the next federal election.
“The time off since the last election has given me a chance to strengthen relationships with my family and friends, and allowed me the luxury of a less-harried schedule to plan my future,” he noted.
“Having served as [a city] councillor, mayor, and member of Parliament, and as president of associations for highway construction and municipal governance, it is the first time in 30 years that my time has been my own,” Boshcoff added.
“It has been a gift to truly reflect on my life in politics, our northern way of life, and the people and the opportunities of our region.”
Boshcoff said people have come up to him every day and encouraged him to run again.
“It is the sincerity of their request that has made it a simple decision for me to seek the support of the voters of Thunder Bay- Rainy River to return as their elected member of Parliament to Ottawa,” he remarked.
“During my time in the House of Commons, we were able to produce considerable results,” Boshcoff said.
“I am most proud of three items that I brought forward that were unanimously accepted by all parties during a very difficult minority government, the most important being the establishment of a bill to dictate Canadian manufacturing content in the purchase of rapid transit equipment with Canadian government funds.
“Unfortunately, much of the positive direction that had been charted for the northwest has not continued, and we need to continue that work,” he stressed.
“I encourage everyone to speak up, get involved, and join me to create a better community and better future for us all.”
