Board to vote on offer to buy school

The Rainy River District School Board has received an offer to purchase Alexander MacKenzie school, and will vote on the offer at a special meeting tonight.
The motion reads “that the Rainy River District School Board accept the offer to purchase Alexander MacKenzie School from 501801 Ontario Ltd. o.p.a. Crozier Warehouse.”
Crozier Warehouse is owned by Steve Both.
Laura Mills, the board’s chief financial officer, said the offer was a recent one and that the board’s finance committee is recommending acceptance.
Also at tonight’s meeting, trustees will vote on a preliminary budget for the 2005-06 school year.
At last week’s council meeting, the Town of Fort Frances listed a number of items it would like to see included in the public school board’s budget, including funds for a partnership in constructing tennis courts at the St. Francis Sportsfield as well as funds for school crossing guards, an OPP presence in schools, and doctor recruitment.
Council also asked that the board pay 50 percent of the costs for maintaining and operating the pedestrian crosswalk on King’s Highway between McDonald’s and A&W.
The meeting starts at 7 p.m. at Robert Moore School.
