The Rainy River District School Board will hold its regular monthly meeting tonight at the board office here.
Board reports will be given relating to the First Nation, Métis, and Inuit Education Advisory Committee, Audit Committee, Parent Involvement Committee, and Policy Committee.
The policy committee met May 29 and is looking for board approval on policies relating to the disposal of surplus equipment, furniture, and books, fundraising, and procurement.
Other polices to be approved by the board for stakeholder consultation include supporting students with prevalent medical conditions, the role of the board, trustee code of conduct, board and committee members attending meetings electronically, trustee honoraria, and community involvement activities.
The board also will vote tonight to rescind two policies regarding adult education and consultants and contractor expense claims.
As well, there will be a report on the Special Education Advisory Committee, with the board to vote to approve the updated Special Education Plan 2017-18.
The plan outlines the Ministry of Education’s and board’s special education policies and resources.
It requires board approval before being sent to ministry for approval later this month.
Some of the key changes to this year’s Special Education Plan includes a section about how all special education staff employed by the board are to support students and staff such as their special education resource teachers, education assistant, speech and language pathologists, and behaviour therapists.
The plan’s staff training for the 2017-18 school year has been updated to reflect the focus on students, staff safety, and the supports provided by community partners.
Also during tonight’s meeting, employee recognitions for retirees and board recognitions for community partners, volunteers, and bus drivers will be distributed, along with Employee of the Year awards.
Administrative reports such as the director’s update, annual operation plan (June, 2018 update), and one regarding personnel will be reviewed during the meeting.
