Board to discuss French education

Staff

French education is one of many topics to be covered at tonight’s monthly meeting of the Rainy River District School Board.
The board will be given a presentation on French language education—the Accelerative Integrated Method (AIM).
After piloting the program last year with Grades 4 and 5, the board has decided to make this program mandatory, purchasing the Grade 6 and 7 curriculum for it.
Reports from various board committees also will be made tonight, including the Aboriginal Education Advisory Committee, Special Education Advisory Committee, and the Policy Committee.
The policy committee will be recommending to the board that it approve the following policies, following stakeholder consultation that took place throughout the previous month:
•1.40 Policy Development;
•1.51 Naming and Opening of New or Consolidated Schools;
•3.05 Principal and Vice Principal Transfer; and
•3.06 Principal and Vice Principal Appointment
The policy committee also will be recommending the board approve the following policies for stakeholder consultation:
•2.50 Ontario Student Records;
•2.61 Filtering Internet Sites;
•3.10 Interviews and Appointments;
•3.14 Ratification of Tentative Agreement;
•3.33 Occupational Health and Safety; and
•8.23 Competitors’ Assistance Fund
The committee also will be recommending the board rescind Policy 3.20 (retirement of employees).
Meanwhile, Robert Moore School will be the recipient of the board’s monthly Recognition of Excellence for the activities slated for April that will reflect this month’s “character in action” characteristic: fairness.
Tonight’s meeting begins at 7 p.m. at Robert Moore School.
