Board to decide on how to finance retrofit project

The Rainy River District School Board will deal with a number of financial matters at tonight’s regular monthly meeting here, including making a decision on how to finance the Honeywell Retrofit and Renewal Project.
Based on a recommendation from the board’s financial committee, trustees will vote on whether to fund $1.1 million of the Honeywell project from the working fund reserve.
The remainder of the $2.5 million project will be funded through the Good Places to Learn and School Renewal grants.
The public board approved the retrofit project last month, and Honeywell guarantees an annual savings of $162,473 in energy costs over the 10 years of the project.
Also tonight, the board will review its audited financial statements for the 2005/06 school year. The year ended in a balanced position.
The finance committee also is recommending the board take $58,000 of unused Student Success funding from last year out of reserves and use it on various student success projects in 2007.
Also at tonight’s meeting, the board will:
•award its Recognition of Excellence to Crossroads School in Devlin for its Sharing Circle;
•vote on whether to approve a new policy granting voting rights to student trustees; and
•hear an update on the aboriginal self-identification process from the Aboriginal Education Advisory Committee.
The meeting gets underway at 7 p.m. at Robert Moore School.
