District residents could be excused if they were walking a little taller on Friday.
That’s because they once again showed their generosity and community spirit by coming out in droves to donate blood at the Canadian Blood Services (CBS) clinic held Wednesday and Thursday at Fort Frances High School.
CBS community development co-ordinator Harvey Heather said the quota for the two-day clinic was 330 donors—and was absolutely thrilled when 376 people turned out.
“It was just fabulous,” Heather said Friday morning from CBS headquarters in Winnipeg. “We had 208 people turn up yesterday [Thursday] and we collected 172 units.”
The reason the number of donors and units collected differ is because some people were disqualified from donating for any one of a host of reasons.
Heather also noted each unit collected can be used to help as many as three people. “That means nearly 1,000 people will potentially benefit from this great effort,” he added.
“My thanks go out to all the great people in Fort Frances and the surrounding community,” he enthused. “It takes a great community to make something like this happen.”
