Blood clinic donors sought

The annual spring blood donor clinic is coming up this Tuesday and Wednesday (April 12-13) at Fort Frances High School—and Canadian Blood Services wants people to know it’s not too late to make an appointment.
CBS spokesperson Harvey Heather said yesterday the first day is “pretty much filled up” while the second day still has about 50 openings for appointments.
“Our goal is for 380 donors to attend the clinic,” he noted. “We expect to collect approximately 300 units of blood.
“Since a single donation of blood can help up to three people, filling the remaining 50 appointment spots gives us the potential to assist up to 900 patients with this clinic,” added Heather.
At the two clinics here last year, 673 local donors contributed 570 units of blood, which potentially helped up to 1,710 patients.
The spring clinic will run Tuesday from 4:30-8:30 p.m. and again Wednesday from noon-3 p.m. and 5-8:30 p.m.
While there are a limited number of walk-in spots on the Wednesday for those who don’t make an appointment, Heather said it’s “much better to book an appointment to ensure a smooth flow for all of the donors.”
To make an appointment, call 1-888-2 DONATE (1-888-236-6283).
In advance of next week’s clinic, Heather said CBS gives “a big thank you to all of the Fort Frances and area donors, volunteers, and sponsors for the amazing support of the patients we serve.”
“Together we save lives,” he stressed.
