Local residents are being encouraged to help out with Haiti earthquake relief efforts by attending a spaghetti dinner fundraiser at the Fort Frances High School cafeteria today from 4-8 p.m.
“Don’t hold back from coming last-minute because we can feed you!” enthused Kathy Cuthbertson of Kathy’s Katering who is helping Fort High students and staff organize the event.
Funds raised will go towards Red Cross relief efforts in Haiti following the devastating earthquake that hit the country back on Jan. 12.
Last-minute diners are welcome, Cuthbertson stressed.
“We’re preparing for 300 but our [advance] ticket sales are only about half that right now,” she noted
“So we’re really ready for lots more at the door.”
The dinner will include spaghetti, Caesar salad, buns, a drink, and dessert. There also will be silent auction/raffle items up for grabs.
Tickets cost $10 for adults and $5 for kids under 10, which are available at Northwoods Gallery & Gifts on Scott Street and at the door.
Take-out also is available by calling 274-7511.
“It’s just a good last-minute chance for anyone who has been thinking about donating or contributing in some way to [Haiti],” Cuthbertson said.
“I know it’s been on everybody’s mind, but maybe they just haven’t gotten around to it.
“So if they can’t attend [the dinner], they can still go and donate at Northwoods, or buy a ticket for someone else,” she noted.
“We actually have one student who came in [yesterday] and it was so sweet because she donated $80 of her own money and didn’t want [dinner] tickets—she just wanted to help,” Cuthbertson added.
“That’s awesome.”
Cuthbertson said that thanks to the generosity of the food suppliers that provide her business with products on a daily basis, they are able to donate 100 percent of the money from ticket sales to Haiti.
“So please come out and enjoy dinner knowing what you spend for your ticket will be donated to the people of Haiti,” she urged.
