The Fort Frances Chamber of Commerce is looking for chefs to compete in its annual chili cook-off next month, which this year will follow theme, “New Orleans Chili Gras.”
“It should be good,” said Chamber executive director Jennifer Soderholm.
“[The theme] opens it up to all kinds of new spices and meats even,” she noted.
“New Orleans is famous for chicken and shrimp and all that kind of stuff.
“Who knows? We may get something that’s closer to a gumbo or a jambalaya?” Soderholm said.
“We’ll take any of it.”
The always-popular event will take place Wednesday, Sept. 16 from 11:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. at the local Legion.
Soderholm said the Chamber is looking for a dozen or so teams to compete.
“We’re encouraging anyone to participate in it,” she remarked.
“It’s great having a lot of the returning participants but it’s also nice to see some new faces coming out, too,” she reasoned.
Those interested in entering this year’s cook-off also are urged to run with the New Orleans/Mardi Gras theme when it comes to costumes and decorations.
“New Orleans is known for its liveliness and its food and everything,” Soderholm said.
“We could really have a fun time with this one,” she enthused.
Chili chefs are urged to contact Soderholm A.S.A.P. at 274-5773.
“We really only have 12 spots that are really open and it’s first-come, first-served,” she noted.
“The ones who contact me first are the ones that are going to be in.”
