The provincial government announced yesterday it will be investing $11 million in “Celebrate Ontario 2009” to support 224 community events across Ontario, with the Fort Frances Canadian Bass Championship to benefit in the form of a $41,250 grant.
“Our government recognizes the economic impact that festivals and events have on local communities throughout the province,” Tourism minister Monique Smith said in a press release.
“By enabling community events to improve their product, we are helping them reach new audiences, create more jobs, and generate more economic activity,” she noted.
The grant—originally announced at $9 million but boosted to $11 million yesterday—will go to support more than a dozen events in Northwestern Ontario, including the upcoming Dudley-Hewitt Cup in Schreiber later this month.
