Bell Mobility is asking the town if it can erect telecommunications towers at Sunny Cove Camp and in the parking lot of the Memorial Sports Centre.
Under the proposed deal, Bell Mobility would pay the town $500 during the construction phase for both projects.
Then as soon at the construction of each is completed, the company would pay the town annual rent in the amount of $6,000 for each site.
After five years, if the town exercises its first option to renew the agreement, the rent would go up to $6,600/year per site.
After 10 years, if the town exercises its second option to renew the agreement, the rent would go up to $7,260/year per site.
And after 15 years, if the town exercises its third option to renew the agreement, the rent would go up to $7,986/year per site.
Council referred the proposal to the Planning and Development executive committee for its recommendation.
Part of Monday night’s council meeting also included a public meeting regarding a zoning amendment (File 08/98-RR) at McIrvine Road.
This meeting was to gather input regarding the proposed amendment of the zoning of the land, which currently is zoned as Highway Commercial (C3), to permit parking/storage and sales of new and used motor vehicles and new utility trailers as site-specific uses.
This would enable the property to be used as a secondary location of an existing motor vehicle dealership/automobile sales establishment.
The property in question is owned by Chad Avis of West End Motors.
The amendment will come forth as a bylaw at the April 11 meeting of council.
Also Monday, council reviewed a report on a recycling promotion and education project.
The town has been given a grant from the Continuous Improvement Fund to promote recycling education, and will be holding a recycling poster/slogan contest.
On Feb. 16, the town sent out letters to Robert Moore, St. Francis, St. Michael’s, and J.W. Walker to invite classes to participate.
Two classes are participating—a Grade 3 one from St. Michael’s and a Grade 8 one from J.W. Walker.
Slogans/posters are to be dropped off at Public Works prior to 4 p.m. on Thursday, April 21.
All of them will be displayed in Council Chambers, with the winners to make a presentation to council at its May 9 meeting.
