Beazley now acting chair of LHIN board

Janice Beazley of Fort Frances, vice-chair of the North West Local Health Integration Network (LHIN), will be the acting chair until a new chairman is appointed.
Dr. John Whitfield, founding chair of the North West LHIN, has announced he is not seeking re-appointment to the board of directors to make time for personal commitments.
His resignation was effective yesterday (April 1).
“It has been a privilege to serve as the founding chair of the North West LHIN,” said Dr. Whitfield. “I believe we have developed a strong and vibrant organization with sound, capable leadership supported by a hard-working and caring board.
“I leave with a sense of accomplishment and some regret,” he added. “However, my personal circumstances are such that I must step aside.”
CEO Gwen DuBois-Wing said Dr. Whitfield has provided outstanding leadership for the North West LHIN throughout its formation and development over the last three years.
“He has a passion for, and commitment to, Northwestern Ontario,” she said. “This, combined with his leadership, has helped build a solid foundation for advancing the North West LHIN’s vision.”
“Dr. Whitfield’s hard work, dedication, and guidance were significant in getting the North West LHIN off the ground,” said George Smitherman, minister of health and long-term care.
“Since I appointed Dr. Whitfield as chair in 2005, he has shone as a leader and always brought a solid voice to the Northern Ontario health system.
“I wish John all the best.”
