Be careful about dialing 9-1-1

Rainy River District OPP responded to a total of 42 9-1-1 calls in February, including 31 from Fort Frances, but many of them were accidental.
The OPP will respond to all 9-1-1 calls—regardless if they are intentional or not.
As such, they would like to make the public aware that the majority of 9-1-1 calls they received either were misdials, “pocket dials,” or kids playing with the phone.
The OPP would like people to make an effort to lock their screens, or put the cellphone in a case, if they are going to place their cellphone in their pocket or purse to avoid a pocket dial.
Yet another issue is people who don’t look up the correct number to call police (1-888-310-1122) and call 9-1-1 instead.
Calling 9-1-1 only should occur when the safety of people or property are at serious risk.
