BARB EVERETT profile

I was born and raised in Fort Frances, and graduated from FFHS in 1970. I have been married to Bob for 35 years and have two adult daughters and three grandsons who currently are enrolled in the elementary public school system in Fort Frances.
I am a member of the Fort Frances Legion Ladies Auxiliary. I also have 27 years of financial background, including 22 years with RBC and have been employed by Northern Lights Credit Union as a commercial account manager for the past five years.
I am running for the position of school board trustee because I feel I have the time and energy needed to help provide the best education possible for the students of Rainy River District.
This includes all students, whether they are attending an alternative learning centre, have special education needs, or are university bound. Every student deserves a quality education, and requires the teachers and resources to meet these needs.
I am very much in favour of new teachers having mentors.
I have strong feelings about the government cutbacks of funding to our school board. We need to stop these cutbacks to ensure our children get the education they deserve and require to fulfill their career goals.
I believe communication is important between all parties in education—students, parents, teachers, and administration. I am a team player and feel confident I will be an asset to the Rainy River District School Board team.
I am familiar with Rainy River District having lived in Atikokan, and also my job takes me to all areas of the district: from Atikokan to Nestor Falls and Rainy River, and all points in between.
I know there are challenging times ahead for the Rainy River District School Board with declining enrolment and the recent funding cuts, but I feel I can have positive input on future decisions to be made by trustees and ask for your vote on Nov. 13.
