Backus to present writing workshops

Press Release

WordPow! Workshop, in partnership with the Backus Community Center in International Falls, will hold writing workshops April 10, 12, and 17 from 1-3:30 p.m. in Room 103.
Registration of $45 (U.S.) is due by April 6, with the class limit being 10.
Over many years that Kate Miller has led group processes and workshops, she has witnessed powerful moments.
Transformations are visible when people connect with their life stories and express them from the heart.
Miller founded WordPow! to offer these opportunities to others.
She remains a writer–of poetry, fiction, creative non-fiction, and occasional stories for children. At the core of her writing is a deep love of the natural world and the experience of being alive in it.
Miller finds inspiration and renewal living on the edge of Rainy Lake and Voyageurs National Park, where Canada and Minnesota merge in the soft lines of water, islands, and forest.
Her education includes Master’s degrees in Transformative Language Arts (2015) and English (1968), as well as writing workshops with Billy Collins (poetry), Alan Cheuse (historical fiction), and Robert Stone (fiction).
Those who take the workshop experience the power of their own words.
No special writing skills needed! A gently-guided process will take you from light warm-up exercises to prompts that invite you to open doors and explore more deeply.
Sharing your writing is always your choice–encouraged but never required. Join us for a good time–and surprise yourself with your writing!
All ages and abilities are welcome.
Pre-registration and payment of the $45 fee will reserve your space. The price includes sessions, materials, and coffee breaks.
You can register online at www.backusab.org or call the Backus office at 1-218-285-7225.
Workshop dates are April 10, 12, and 17, or May 12 from 10 a.m.-4:30 p.m.
